3:30 am by Monique Rioux

3:30 am

Black tea saturated dreams
Like water moccasins they swim
Serpentine downriver
into my head
The current ripples
They spill me awake and I step
Out into the night to catch some air

The cold, it hits hard in the face
But oh, the stars are blazing
Is it really the night that permeates
Or am I looking at holes
poked through a drawn velvet curtain
And what lies behind is completely blinding light?

The air moves
It surges, dips down, inside and out again
We share the same air
You and I,  the same breaths
They disperse and coalesce
Filaments of wonder breathed in silence
