“Too Many Faces” – poem by Chris Tucker

I’ve heard the darkest light

And been pierced by the blinding night

I’ve seen the monster they call justice

And the noble cause upheld

I’ve seen the dehumanizing system

And the countless trials

Felt a million briefcases shuffling

Heard a thousand shackles rustling

But most of all I’ve seen

Myself

And the countless others

Trying to hide the pain

Expecting snow but getting only rain

As the blind woman turns the pages

She throws away the keys to a thousand cages

Now the meek one rages

This can’t be undone even with the magic of a thousand mages

Now they sit and rot for a million ages
