“Disengaged” – poem by Megan Dupre

I like the clarity of this poem – especially given that the topic is not an easy one to be clear about…

Depersonalized, a sudden fright

to wake one morning

with soul detached

as breath flows slowly in and out.

Lasting from days to years,

you watch yourself sink deeper

into a lifeless state,

pushing others away,

impossible to explain.

Focus, demolished

with no sense of being.

You’re on the outside

and can’t take the pain.
