Dune Buggies – Daniel Barrett

there he sat
eating a can of pears
the cockroaches ride
on dune buggies below him
they spew their mark
as the mud flaps flutter

sun sets in a wink
all is silent now
save for the king of hearts
stuck in his bicycle’s spoke
there is a mouse loose
helping the calm of things

an eyepiece stares
a freckled charm
the charred arms of
ash and a missing leg
of a now tripod
grand piano

its lullaby only
humming in unison
with the dune buggies
their mud flaps flutter
percussing for the
symphony of dirt
